INFO:
Naomi Watts and her trans daughter Kai have hosted an LGBTQ+ fundraising event in New York. Kai Schreiber is the daughter of Hollywood stars Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber. The 16-year-old has already made waves in the fashion industry, having been signed to IMG Models and walking for Maison Valentino in the brand’s womenswear fallu002Fwinter show. On Thursday (22 May), the model was joined by her 56-year-old mum to host the “Mother Daughter Holy Spirit” LGBTQ+ fundraiser in New York. The fundraiser is a three-part grassroots mission for the Trans Justice Funding Project, which was founded in 2012 supports trans justice groups in the US. The pair sported glamorous black and gold outfits, with Kai towering over her mother who wrapped her arm around her waist. In a post promoting the pair’s role, the organisers of the fundraiser wrote: “A parent’s love is important to every human on earth. For trans people, the love and support of a parent can be absolutely crucial. Another photo showed Kai posing with Hari Nef, an openly trans model and actress. Watts has been a public champion for her daughter, who came out as trans in 2025. Taking to Instagram for Kai’s 14th birthday in 2022, Watts said she was “beyond proud” to be the girl’s mother. “Your fierce talent, sharp mind, hilarious wit and gentle soul fills my heart every day,” she said. Her dad, who split with her mum after 11 years together, has also been supportive. In 2017, Scream star Liev Schreiber was praised for taking then eight-year-old Kai to ComicCon, with the youngster dressed as Batman character Harley Quinn. Kai had not yet publicly come out as trans, and fans described Schreiber’s children being able to wear whatever costume they wanted as inspiring. In May, he opened up about supporting Kai, saying “it didn’t feel like a big deal”.
