INFO:
Luciana Grandi, the marathon mom & wife who recently went viral for ignoring her daughters and husband at the finish line, uploaded a clip in response to the viral videos of her finishing the race. It’s hard to translate everything word for word from any language to English and make it make sense, but here’s my best shot! Her IG is LU_GRANDI if you wanna follow her. :) “Hey guys. How are ya’ll? I'm Luciana Grandi, personal trainer, amateur athlete, and a street runner for a few years now. And mother of 2 girls, and Pedro's wife. I would like to talk here a little bit about my side of things, about what happened. About this story. This huge backlash because of this video, this end of a race of mine. This marathon. This guy they're talking about in the video, the bald guy, Teo Grandi, is my brother. We have a whole life of story in sports. We are known. He is a former professional athlete, and at the time of the race we were running together side by side and he was encouraging me throughout the race. He was there kilometer after kilometer (mile after mile). It was a race that I was absolutely not prepared to do. I hadn't been training that much. And without that training, the experience I have in the sport, in street races from few years back won’t help me. I think many people weren't prepared. But ultimately I had an opportunity to win. The day before the race, my husband and I had agreed to try to have a beautiful finish line crossing moment. To go through the finish line with the girls, not knowing if I would win or not. The time came when I was leading the race, but there was a runner fighting alongside me, mile after mile (kilometer after kilometer). That happened practically the entire race. When I was close to finishing the 21 kilometers, no one knew what my husband and I had talked about the night before. First of all, we didn't even know if I was actually going to win the race! So he didn't know. There was no way he could have known that the second place runner was very close to me. She was about 30, 40 seconds behind me. So there came the time when I needed to seal the race, finish the race. I wanted to get past the finish line, exhausted as I was. And I couldn't see anything. I mean I saw the girls next to me, but I needed to get there! Finish the race! Win, win! And then, I went, and hugged my daughters, hugged my brother! I basically dismounted myself on him like that. I was in a moment of euphoria, of joy, in disbelief, of everything that was happening! That I had won that race! A race that I had poorly trained for! And I hugged the girls, my husband. We celebrated! I took them to the podium with me! It wasn’t a crossing to the finish line as beautiful as we would’ve wanted. And I’d like to have a cooler arrival to the finish line with them being there, but I know I will have other opportunities to do that and have a different impact in all of this. So I would like to point out about the comments that are coming out on the networks and online regarding my relationship with my husband, and make it clear that Pedro is an excellent husband! He is an incredible father! Everybody that knows him knows this! The people who know us. Our friends , our family. We are a simple, happy family. We are a sports family, and we will continue to be so! Well, that's it! I'm grateful for the messages of support, the good things I’ve heard, the affection I’ve received from my family, my friends, my students, and the general public. Please know that it means a lot! And don’t forget… let's run people!”
